“The logging of water on the streets has only increased with each spell of rain,” said Deepak Babbar, who’s NGO, Mission Aagaaz, deals with environmental concerns. “Collecting the water in troughs, drums, and buckets will help the city harvest this resource and tide over the problem of flooding.” Babbar has requested the administration and common citizens to collect rainwater for agricultural and domestic use. This monsoon, the MC has passed bills for more than Rs 50 lakh that is to be paid for the job of keeping the sewerage system free of clutter. Of this amount, more than Rs 50,000 was for removing silt from the gutters. The amount sanctioned and the claims of preparedness do not match with the images of waterlogged streets. (HT)
